Music Information Retrieval
The extraction of information from waveforms formed by music combines the rigorous mathematics of digital signal processing with the subtle heuristics used in the creation of music. Spectral Efficiency applies many years of expertise in both aspects and balances the two to produce efficient, robust and innovative algorithms that are then used to build products that enhance the experience of music
For example the output of a low complexity, low noise constant Q transform optimized for an equal tempered scale is combined with a carefully selected set of pattern probabilities and passed to sophisticated estimation algorithms to perform a range of fundamental information retrieval tasks such as
- Multiple F0 estimation;
- Beat tracking;
- Metre analysis; and
- Source separation
The algorithms employed can all be implemented in real time on today's handheld devices allowing highly portable solutions that address musicians' requirements
